Introduction

The conclusion of Season 2 was not an easy one. Dhruv Vats and Kavya Kulkarni were on their way to a new chapter in their lives, and that final kiss made it even more emotional for the audience. Four seasons later, the couple is reunited in Kerala, 13 months after that fateful night in season 2. There’s nothing wild about life anymore; they’re getting older, calculations are taking over, and the subject of marriage has come up. Please keep in mind that this is the last time we will be seeing Dhruv and Kavya, so prepare yourself accordingly.

Plot Summary

Dhruv quickly takes to his new surroundings and makes instant friends. Kavya struggles with loneliness at home and vulnerability at work. Dhruv and Kavya grow accustomed to their individual lives. As Dhruv’s fellowship ends, an awkward conversation stirs unease about his return to Mumbai.

What works?

There has never been a time when the relatability quotient has been higher than it is in Little Things (formerly Dice Media, now owned by Netflix). Every unspoken emotion that Dhruv and Kavya experience is read by the show’s fans, who have grown to know and understand these characters. As a result, when season 3 begins and the two finally get to see each other, you can feel the longing even before they start talking about the 13 months they spent apart.

Dhruv Sehgal wrote the first three seasons of the show, and he is credited as Co-Executive Producer on the fourth season. Abhinandan Shridhar has written the script for the show and is also responsible for its development. It was a very brave decision to fire the writer who had written the first three seasons of the show that were so successful. It’s possible that the fact that Shridhar has also spent time in the season 3 writing room helped him get the job.

Returning to Season 2 of the show. Every step of the way, it has been about the ‘Little Things’ in a relationship, particularly when the couple is living together. It’s been six years since the two of them have been able to sail, but how long will they continue to ignore the more important questions? Marriage? Kids? What happens after a certain point? And that is exactly what the new season is about. While I thoroughly enjoyed the new season, despite my fair share of complaints, I must caution readers that it is not to everyone’s taste. Many people who watched it for the cuteness factor may be disappointed by the shift to a more mature perspective on a relationship that has almost seen it all before.

Kavya has reached the age of thirty, and with her comes a slew of problems. It is important to the writers that they do not stereotype these two characters because of their age, but how long can one hide from the fact that life is happening to them? The problems become more relatable to people in their thirties. The level of maturity in the detailing increases. Whether it’s Dhruv’s crooked glasses or Kavya’s ability to handle both sets of parents responsibly, there’s something for everyone.

What Doesn’t work?

Ruchir Arun’s gesture in the direction of the couple allows them to move freely. They are not required to adhere to a marking system; however, the decision to improvise is left to them. Perhaps this is more effective in bringing out the authenticity. DOP Anirudh Patankar’s photographs of Kerala’s lush greenery and the concrete of the city are both strikingly beautiful. When Dhruv and Kavya are performing their cheesy magic, the music of Neel Adhikari is the perfect accompaniment to be playing in the background.

Several issues are addressed in the show, including an elderly woman who appears in front of an audience and explains that she first appeared in front of her granddaughter. These are noteworthy moments, but they are only effective as ‘by the way’ photographs. The two moms coming together is similar in this regard. There is a lot of potential for creativity, but the creators choose to be conservative.

As previously stated, not everyone will be pleased with the increase in maturity level. There will be differing viewpoints, and the decision-makers will not be able to avoid this.

I don’t think we will see Dhruv and Kavya this good on this show. I wish they would continue to produce the show. Even though they are maturing, there is still a spark between them. Immerse yourself in the experience and feel the magic. Bonus point: the climax is designed to win hearts and melt hearts!
