As a consequence, Lorrain’s child will be born as a stillborn, but only for a few seconds before being revived. Years later, the Warrens have decided to stop their services as exorcists and are aiming to lead a peaceful, family-oriented life.

A family in Pennsylvania will be continuously haunted by a demonic presence, making their lives despair. Warren’s daughter Judy gets a vision that directs her to this house. The Warrens, urged on by their daughter Judy’s psychic visions, return from retirement to help.

Review

There is no doubt that The Conjuring series is one of the world’s most loved horror movie franchises. Tales taken straight from the case diaries of the Warrens, this franchise introduced us to the Annabelle doll, the Nun, and more. The makers have finally delivered a thrilling and chilling finale for the franchise.

Despite a questionable 4th installment of the movie that released during the period of COVID, fans were all looking forward to watching the Warrens come up with yet another interesting case. Fortunately, they were able to wrap things up without the franchise getting messier this time. Rather than relying so much on jump scares, the makers chose to explore an emotional angle of the Warrens this time, bidding adieu to them as well as to the series.

The story slowly develops, introducing us to the nature of the evil we are dealing with in this tale, and then gradually plummets to the family matters of the Warrens and their daughter’s affair. Thankfully, whenever the screenplay takes a dip, it immediately rises by showing us an episode of the haunted house in Pennsylvania, which was interesting. Though overall, the fear factor was very much less in this finale. If the movie had managed to deliver half of what the first installment of The Conjuring did, it would have been gold!

The only problem with this movie—a major one—was the climax. It was loud. It was rushed. It was weird. Visually, the makers could have easily opted for something more eerie, but what transpired onscreen during the climax actually ended up inviting laughs and some “wtf” vibes!

Conclusion

Watch The Conjuring: Last Rites in theatres if you are an ardent fan of the series. Though not loud with screams and chills this time, the tale does have some good moments now and then, keeping you hooked to the movie.
