My rating for the movie is 10/10.
Plot/Storyline
A group of 5 friends meets every Sunday on the Juhu beach to play football. They meet an elderly person on their way back home (Subramaniam) who accidentally kicks a football and hits a lady giving a speech during a conference.
This leads to the ban of playing football on the beach and apparently a stir in the lives of these 5 friends. Right from railway stations, parking basements, railway tracks, terraces to Mumbai locals; the group takes a spin all over the Mumbai city just to find a place for them to play.
This elderly man played by Subramaniam is an Alzheimer’s patient but fortunately remembers his house landline number. Arjun drops him his home safely and gets thanked by his daughter Kavya (Goswamy). To woo his daughter Kavya, he starts taking this old uncle out every Sunday.
Arjunโs buddies include Rashid, Dominic, Mehernosh, and Jayesh all coming from different backgrounds. All these adults have different lifestyles, different backgrounds but they only have one common hobby; which is โFootballโ.
This football on a Sunday is like an escape for all of them where they forget what their problems are how difficult life is, how shitty the office is, how irritating the family is etc.
Characters
Arjun is a charming corporate employee who runs his own consultancy.
Rashid is a handsome Casanova and has a funny Bombay accent.
Mehernosh is a shirt tucked bespectacled accountants guy who has a typical โKhadoos bossโ.
Dominic lives with his mother, his brother, and his fiancรฉ. Jayesh is a Gujarati family man always surrounded by a chaotic family but can never be seen participating in that chaos.
The female character; Kavya is a career-oriented woman who stays with her father suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Tasneem plays the mother of 2 hearing impaired sons, Vinta is the fiancรฉ of Dominicโs elder brother, and Wilma is Dominicโs mother.
All these characters are played exceptionally well by the actors in the movie! Even if the roles played by some characters donโt get enough screen time (Office boss, Pallavi Batra, Suhas Ahuja) theyโre still as important as the others.
The movie could not have been possible without even one character! Rasika Duggal is effortlessly beautiful playing a single mother to her 2 hearing impaired sons. You will connect with every single character in the movie.
Likes/Dislikes
The movie makes us realize that we all deserve a Sunday in life; whether itโs a hobby, a getaway or a person! The movie talks about the lack of space in Bombay city and how the whole world is becoming one big Bombay city.
For me, what shined in the movie is Rasika Duggal. The ease but pain she says โChalta hai, Life haiโ with just had me both smiling and in tears!
Of course, thereโs a Goa trip, but the director doesnโt make it feel clichรฉd at all. The blossoming romances are also a delight to watch.
There was nothing in this movie that I disliked, every bit is enjoyable. The music may not be the most important, but the cast and the story surely is!
Final Take
Tu hai mera Sunday should be officially considered as the โGo-to stress busterโ movie! Itโs a movie that proves that we all deserve a break from life.
Definitely, a 100% recommendation because, “Tu hai Mera Sunday” is worth spending 126 minutes on your couch with a big popcorn bowl on a Sunday!.
