Plot analysis

Diane in Chicago Party Aunt is not just a fictional character that has been brought to life on paper and screen; rather, she is the creation of Chris Witaske, who first introduced this wild, party-loving, and booze-swilling character on Twitter in 2011. In the end, Diane’s social media presence and her jokes helped her gain popularity and a following on the internet. And here we are, almost 5 years later, with the premiere of Diane’s Netflix animated series!

Following the everyday adventures of Diane Dunbrowski, a hairdresser in Chicago, and her nephew Daniel, who is taking a gap year before attending Stanford, Chicago Party Aunt is an entertaining and informative show. Unlike Diane, Bonnie is a well-established adult who wants Diane to understand and accept responsibility for her actions. However, because Diane behaves as if she is a helicopter mother to Daniel, life finds a way! Aside from that, Diane is divorced from her husband Kurt, with whom she shares a son named Mikey, whom she adores!

First of all, Awesome voiceover!

In the voice of Ash, who is fresh off a breakout performance as an unconventionally bossy manager on “Superstore,” Diane is a joyous agent of chaos who has little regard for the consequences of her actions. Even though Ash embraces her flat-voweled Chicagoan accent to such an extent that it frequently crosses over into general Midwestern territory, there’s no doubt that she also embodies the level of insane energy required by the character. The problem with the show that revolves around Diane, on the other hand, is that it barely exists. Most of the other storylines are anchored by O’Malley’s (relatively) more timid Daniel, who is eventually trampled underfoot by Diane. Even though Diane’s sister Bonnie (Jill Talley), who is the father of his son, has spent her entire life cleaning up Diane’s messes, some of the series’ most memorable moments occur when Bonnie allows herself to be just as messed up. Outside of Gideon (RuPaul Charles), Diane’s snobbish boss at the hair salon where she inexplicably works, and a woefully underutilized Da’Vine Joy Randolph as her understandably agitated coworker, Black people appear to be non-existent in this version of Chicago, despite the fact that it is set in the city of Chicago.

Standard Animated but Wicked

Chicago Party Aunt follows the standard animated sitcom format, consisting of eight episodes lasting approximately 24-25 minutes each. With its light-hearted storyline and brightly colored animation that runs throughout all of the episodes, the sitcom will have you hooked from the very beginning to the very end. While Diane’s character can be annoying and loud at times, she is absolutely lovable as she goes about her life riff-raffing through it all with her boyfriend Daniel, who is gay and is stepping into the world with little experience but a strong desire to make something of himself! Additionally, the entire workplace sequence that runs throughout the series is extremely amusing.

Despite the fact that Diane does not fit the definition of an employee that anyone would want to hire, there is something about her wit, charm, stubbornness, and stupidity that makes it difficult to let her go! It doesn’t matter if some of the jokes in Chicago Party Aunt come across as repetitive or old-fashioned; the sitcom is still worth watching for its Chicago accent and appeal.

Conclusion

Chicago party aunt Review

Chicago Party Aunt is laced with local references, including the Chicago accent and people, and while not everyone will understand these allusions, the series is still entertaining. Season 1; Part 1 ended on a positive note, with Diane’s life finally coming together, so Season 2; Part 2 might as well deal with some wholesome bonding moments, and we’re all for it!
