Introduction

Hey guys. On this day Drishyam made an entry to Indian Cinema and saved the dignity of Bollywood. It is one of those movies that lives up to expectations. Let’s check the ins and outs of the movie…

Iconic dialogues from this movie

“Insaan apni family ke bina jee nahi sakta … unke liye kuch bhi kar sakta hai … phir duniya use matlabi kahe ya khudgarz.”

In English:

“A person cannot live without his family … he can do anything for them … then it doesn’t matter if the world calls him selfish or egocentric.”

“Har pariwar mein kuch aise raaz hote hai … joh na khule toh hi behtar hai”

In English:

“There are some secrets in every family … which are better if they remain a secret”

Critic Reviews

“Drishyam portrays a decent man pushed to the limit by corruption, and Kamat’s restrained treatment turns a story ripe for melodrama into a thoughtful depiction of an honest, upstanding family forced to commit a crime in the name of truth and honor.” Lisa Tsering

Plot Summary

Life takes a turn for Vijay and his family when Sam, a spoiled offspring of a lady IPS officer, breaks into their house and tries to take advantage of young Anju and her mother. Sam gets killed accidentally in the quarrel. Vijay hides the body. But someone identifies Vijay using Sam’s car to dump it to the police. IG Meera Deshmukh and his police force try everything, even torture, to get something out of the family’s mouth.

Thrills in every second

In the genre section of this movie, it said ‘thriller’. Now you might be thinking about what it has to do with my point, right? Well, you are right, every thriller movie has ‘thriller’ written over in the genre column. But the question is, do those movies really live up to the description? The answer is no. There are piles of such films lying in the dustbin of IMDB. Films like Jaani Dushman: Ek anokhi Kahani, Jism 2, Rudraksh,a and Talaash are examples of how Bollywood can rip off the audience in the name of thrillers. This is called fraud in simple words. But there is always one movie that does the work of redemption for the entire industry.

There is always a movie that lives up to every expectation. In the dark and unfaithful era of Bollywood Drishyam came out to be that movie. It also had ‘thriller’ written over its genre column and, fortunately, it actually provided thrills. I think God got mad after all these fraud thrillers and decided to make up for all the loss the audience bore. He collected all the suspense and thrill in Bollywood and put it in Drishyam. I know all this sounds exaggerated but I need you to trust me on this. Right after the entry of Sam in Vijay’s house, this film starts to rain in suspense.

There are a lot of Oh Shit!, Oh No!, WTF!, and WTH! moments. Every time the family faced the police, it seemed like the end, but they somehow managed to escape the situation every time. This film is cardio on a couch. Your heartbeat will rise every time Tabu enters the scene and Vijay’s family faces Gaitonde.

The perfect character; Vijay

Vijay Kumar, from the outside, looks like a simple man who is just 5th standard passed out and has nothing to do with the outside world. From inside, he is exactly the same but with an extra layer of possessiveness and protectiveness for his family. Meera underestimates him and takes him for granted due to the fact he is just a 5th standard pass out. He leverages that and slips out from the grip of law and Meera with his coming. But he remained terrified till the end. He knew the consequences if he or his family bent even just a little in front of the police. His rivalry with Gaitonde and Gaitonde’s fall in the mid climax was very satisfying to watch.
