Plot Summary

A group of Dumb teens goes on vacation a year after they killed and disposed of a man. But, they are being stalked and attacked by a serial killer. But the killer is sort of incompetent in killing. He tries his best to finish his job but couldn’t. This leaves us in a hilarious gag.

Two American soldiers died fighting each other for some ethical reason during the Vietnam war. But, the government decided to preserve their bodies so that they can be used in a top-secret mission called Unisols. They are resurrected with help of AI and robotics and now used to kill people for the benefit of the government. But they both start to have flashbacks of the past and remember that they hated each other which disrupts the ongoing mission.

The shotgun approach of Scary Movie

The scary movie has a unique horror elementβ€”something which has made men in Black a success. If you have not already guessed, then it is its parody theme. Remember, in the man in the black article, we have discussed how men in Black mocks the typical superhero films concept? The scary movie does precisely the same. It is not your average former obvious and predictable horror movie. Some people say it is a parody of the film’s scream and I know what you did last summer. I am one of those people.

This film succeeded because it presented something opposite of what people are tired of and fun at the same time. There was a surprise waiting for the audience in the theatres. In marketing language, there is a trick called pattern-interrupt. It is something significantly fewer marketers know about. Scary movies interrupted the patterns in the audience’s minds and presented something which board gags after gags.

The screenplay is something very complicated to explain (in a good sense). The film is full of mocking scenes. There is a scene where the dash is being attacked by a “ghost,” as the camera approaches her to take a close-up shot, she makes a sound as it had hit her. I went bonkers at this scene. Also, a scene When the same girl throws random stuff at The Ghost. When she runs out of property to throw, she throws an old granny at him. No wonder why children love this movie, although some of them found it scary. But they like the shotgun approach of this movie towards the horror movies.

Acting performances

The acting of all the cast members is exemplary. Anna Faris plays a tough girl who is being attacked but fights back with quite a big deal of courage and screams, of course. Maryam Wayans place the remarkable and funny, shorty. Everyone remembers the “I see white people line.” The ghost does a critical job in the success of this movie.

An Honest disclaimer, though

If you are comfortable with gay and non-gay humor, if you are comfortable with and grandma being thrown down the stairs and are comfortable laughing at things you will regret a later due to a slight guilt coma, you should watch scary movies. It is your cup of tea.

The film gives a nice dose of visual entertainment as well. Honestly, without it, this film would have not survived. Good visuals and graphics are a must-have for an action sequence. It remains to a sweet spot where it is neither too overwhelming nor too less for a movie to be dull.

Conclusion

Scary Movie is a parody to be enjoyed and not to be taken seriously. There’s very less consideration given to the story and character arcs and other creative aspects because there was no need. They wanted to create a spoof only to make people laugh. They succeeded.

I’m gonna watch the whole series now. This article fired me up for the fun adventure.
