One line Review: A light hearted film, filled with some good performances.
What’s it About?
Ludo is a light-hearted movie filled with stars which tells us 4 different stories tied by a single knot.
“ With Ludo, it’s hard to tell the rowdy child in a candy store from the sedated bull in a china shop. After all, a striking mess of confectionery and crockery is still a mess.“
~ Rahul Desai. Film Companion.
Anurag Basu shows us the perfect mixture of comedy and crime in this single movie. I would rate it as high as 7/10.
Characters and Their Stories
The movie starts with Anurag Basu on screen as a narrator introducing us to different characters in the movie. Presumably set in Kolkata, Ludo tells us 4 different stories.
Akash(Aditya Roy Kapoor) and Shruti(Sanya Malhotra) are trying to catch the person who uploaded their MMS on the internet.
Bittu(Abhishek Bachchan) who is recently released from jail is being blackmailed by his friend turned foe Sattu.
Pinky(Fatima Sana Shaikh ) approaches Alok(Rajkummar Rao) for help when her husband is wrongly accused of murder.
Rahul(Rohit Saraf) and Shreeja(Pearle Maaney) are on a run after stealing Sattu’s money.
Pankaj Tripathi plays an interesting character Sattu, who is funny and equally dangerous.
What’s to Like/Dislike?
The best thing about this movie is despite having multiple storylines, it doesn’t confuse the audience. The movie starts with 4 different stories and then converges to a single point in the end.
Abhishek’s who plays Bittu has the most interesting story amongst all according to me. It’s a redemption story with an unexpected ending. There are some funny moments in the movie that makes you laugh.
The old song that is being used as a background score sets the mood of the audience at the start itself.
The only bad thing about this movie is, that it has a cliché ending. Abhishek’s story has an interesting climax, the other three could have been handled better. Given how strong the performances from the cast are, it kind of does them injustice.
Finally
Ludo is a fun-filled movie, which has both good and bad endings of the different storylines. Anurag Basu takes us on a ride to watch his characters go on their own adventures.
