Roohi is all about a ghost who abducts brides from their weddings and craves for a man to marry for herself.

Summary

Bhawra and Kattani are two youngsters who belong to a village called Bagadpur. It is the village custom that if a guy falls for a girl, the girl will be abducted and will be forced into the marriage. Bhawra and Kattani get stuck with Roohi, an innocent girl, due to a failed abduction for a similar marriage planned and ordered by their boss. They have to keep her in a hideout till they are informed otherwise by their boss and they take her with them to an old factory amidst a forest.

Eventually, they realize that Roohi’s body is also a home for a ghost named Afza. She belongs to this category of ghosts named ‘mudiyapairi’ which means twisted-feet. While Bhawra falls in love with Roohi, Kattani falls for Afza. The rest of the story is about how both of them deals with the situation and manage to free Roohi from the clutches of Afza.

Review

I am writing this review just to let you all know how bad the movie is so that you can use this as a warning sign! To start with, the plot is so dumb that the makers supposedly took the audience for granted. Show them any crap and they’ll clap kinda approach. There are no chills at all in this so-called horror-comedy.

I lost it right when Kattani fell for Afza. The only thing bearable about the movie was the chemistry between Rajkumar Rao and Varun Sharma. Right from their dialogue delivery to comic timing, everything was good. I honestly wished that perhaps these two characters were placed in a different plot, maybe then it would have been a funnier watch.

Jhanvi Kapoor as Roohi and Afza were good. But again, an unimpressive narration ruins everyone’s efforts. For some reason, I felt that the climax of the movie was good again. An unexpected end with a message was something I wasn’t expecting in Roohi.

Verdict

A below-average horror comedy with neither horror nor comedy.
