Soorarai Pottru is undoubtedly one of Suriya’s career-best and with Sudha Kongara’s direction, the movie has reached its quality best.

“Soorarai Pottru’ movie review: A splendid Suriya shoulders this rollercoaster ride.”

~ The Hindu

After a long break, Suriya is back with all his glory. Soorarai Pottru for its brilliant screenplay, direction, and well for everything in it deserves a rating of 09/10.

Story/Plot Line

Nedumaran Rajangam is a youngster from a village whose father is a school teacher and who keeps posting petitions for bringing developments to his village.

Maran dreams of building an airline company, thereby demolishing the concept of only the rich being granted the possibility of air travel. But he has to cross a lot of hurdles to achieve his dream of flying.

Amidst his battle with Paresh Goswami and Co who are considered the biggies in this field of Airlines, Maran finds the love of his life – Bommi.

The story is inspired by the life of G. R. Gopinath and the difficulties he had to go through to achieve his dream to fly.

Review & Performances

Every bit of the movie, from its very first shot to the very last one is too gripping that you will forget the fast-forward button. One of the main plus points of Soorarai Pottru, apart from its story is its brilliant star cast and stellar performances.

Suriya as Nedumaran Rajangam nailed it with his performance. Perhaps after his ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, this could be considered his career-best role. But again, from the trailer of the movie, the premise, and from the words of Sudha Kongara herself about the actor and his efforts, an extraordinary Suriya-Show was expected anyway!

What amused me was the equally competitive performances by the rest of the cast.

Urvashi as Maaran’s mother delivered her best. Their scenes together were just out of the world. Aparna again was a treat to watch playing Bommi, wife of Nedumaaran.

What gave the whole experience a boost was G. V. Prakash Kumar’s score. His songs and BGMs were soulful, massy, and melodious in perfect places.

The homework put by Sudha in crafting such a story with all the commercial elements to please the audience with nothing going out of the line is commendable.

Verdict

It would have been a great theatre experience if not for this pandemic. Soorarai Pottru is a highly recommended movie for all kinds of audiences.

Sooriya as Maaran will make you go through a variety of emotions throughout this movie. If you miss that vintage Suriya, this is where you can find him.
