Story

Ugly revolves around a missing girl child and subsequently how everyone tries to take advantage of the situation instead of finding the girl.

Performances

Every actor is meant for their respective role. And they have played it so well that it’s hard to differentiate who was better. It has a bunch of cuss words especially the scene where Rahul (Rahul Bhatt) confronts his friend Chaitanya (Vineet Singh) and questions his loyalty. Vineet Singh completely stands out in the scene.

Jadhav (Girish Kulkarni) is another interesting character and it’s fun to watch him struggle with his dialer tone or even when he is dead serious and interrogating someone.

The rift between Rahul (Rahul Bhat) and Shoumik (Ronit Roy ) is established at the start of the film itself. Both the actors have played their characters really well which keeps us engaged and takes the story forward. Tejaswini Kholapure plays Shalini who shows the transformation from dependent wife to something darker which looks really great on-screen and shows how well she has played it.

Anurag had made sure that every actor has their moments in the film where they stand out from the rest. This movie has a perfect combination of a good story with great performances.

Screenplay, Direction, Editing, and Cinematography

Written by Anurag Kashyap himself, the screenplay is engaging enough to make you hold on to your seat till the end thinking what is going to happen next?

Editing is the backbone of this movie which is done by Aarti Bajaj. She has done a fabulous job making sure the story lies just between the drama and mystery.

And last but not least Nikos Andritsakis has captured some beautiful visuals where we feel what those characters are feeling even when they are saying nothing.

My Views

Anurag Kashyap’s movie has always redefined the definition of Indian Cinema at the global platform. When I went to watch this movie I had high expectations because of “Gangs of Wasseypur”. And this movie just surpassed my expectation when I walked out of the theater. I would rate it a high 4/5.

Final Verdict

It’s bold, It’s dark, It’s gritty.
