Introduction

Varisu is a typical family drama by Vamsi where Vijay is the only bearable element.

Vijay-starrer Varisu turns out exactly the way you want it to be. Thereโ€™s nothing novel about the plot of the film.

Review

Varisu is a template movie. Sometimes it becomes hard to believe that you are actually watching a 2-hour movie and not a year-long family serial. Vamsi’s plot rarely works when it comes to the story and if not for Vijay’s screen presence, charisma, and wittiness, it would have been a snooze fest.

Thaman’s BGM falls flat as the mood never shifts to something that engages the viewer after a limit. Most of the time Varisu is flooded with cliched emotions, and father-son conflicts and so as to save the pace of narration, a colorful song is inserted at regular intervals. Whenever Rashmika’s character meets Vijay onscreen, a song is guaranteed. Otherwise, she’s not seen anywhere in the movie.

After a long gap, Vijay shines like anything with his charm and dialogue delivery when it comes to comedy in Varisu. His child-like enthusiasm and wittiness works very well in the movie and such sequences are a major plus. Mild yet perfectly placed references of his own movies are moments to celebrate for his fans.

Movies like Varisu makes people think on what basis are scripts selected. The story told in Varisu is nothing new. There are no twists or anything unique about the narration. It is high time that new writers are introduced to such high-profile stars to deliver some quality movies.

Conclusion

Varisu – An avoidable family drama.
