Introduction

Today We’re going to talk about Sunny Deol’s 2001 release, Indian. This film was a hit back then. I remember watching it at a tea stall with more than 15 people gathered around when this film premiered on the TV. Let’s start the review.

Iconic dialogues from this movie

β€œEven if we don’t get a one time meal, even if we don’t have clothes on our body, even if we don’t have a roof on our head … but when it comes to the pride of our country … then we put our lives forward for it”

Iconic Song from the movie

β€œWatan Walo Watan Na Bech Dena” by Roop Kumar Rathode

Lyrics:

β€œWatan walo watan na bech dena
Ke dharti yeh gagan na bech dena
Shaheedon ne jaan di hain watan ke vaaste
Shaheedon ke kafan na bech dena
Dosto sathiyo hum chale
De chale apna dil apni jaan
Taaki jeeta rahe apna hindustan
Hum jiye hum mare is watan ke liye
Is chaman ke liye taake khilte
Rahe gul hameshaa yahan doston saathiyon”

This song sets up the mood and aura for the film and tells us what it is going to be about. Also, It shows that Sunny Deol will not accept anything harming the nation. A True Patriot.

Plot Summary

Raj is an IPS officer who just had success in capturing an active terrorist Wasim Khan. He gets a lot of appraisal from his father in law who also is an IPS officer but higher in rank. But, his father-in-law gets killed out of nowhere and all the blame comes to Raj. Raj has little to no time to defend himself and save the city from the terror attack.

Sunny deol and tough roles

Sunny Deol is suitable for playing the role of a tough guy. He is one of Bollywood’s most high-profile performers. His compassion, leadership, fun, and tough attitude are commendable. In India, he is a police commissioner who is sympathetic and tough. In addition, Sunny Deol always follows patriotism. When he said that his son would not get his father’s permission when he saw his mother being harassed, or that every Indian has the right to object to protecting his home from rioters, he joined the conversation.

Sunny Deol vs. Danny Denzongpa is in stark contrast. Fight with the intelligence of many intermediaries. Patriotism against traitors. In the battle, there were many decent confrontations in the success and failure of both sides. In the end, it ends with the protagonist of victory, reminding all the traitors and anti-national sentiments.

The characters are really good. You really know them, but they are still very popular. You will learn some of their history and what kind of people they are. The actors have done a good job in portraying these characters. The story seems a bit unbelievable. Some facts may be wrong, but they are still quite credible. You believe in places and roles and their actions and reactions.

The story is well-written and detailed, and anything seems possible. They managed to give this film its own style and personality. The basic idea of saving the city from terrorists is old, so you may not want to call this show original. On the other hand, you don’t know what to call it. This is a new twist on an old idea (could add a good idea) and it has no clichΓ©s. It gives a true picture of what is likely to happen. At the same time, you get the old hero who saves the innocent. However, Joginder Singh was not treated as a hero. He’s more inclined to be an antihero. Photography is great. This is one of the films with a unique appearance. The mood, style, and movement are well captured in the beautiful shots and very enjoyable music.

Action and Patriotism

Action and Patriotism have a deep connection in Indian Cinema. Almost every movie that shows national Interest has cutting-edge action and fight scenes in it. Except for films like Padman and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Likewise, Indian is full of action and fight scenes. Sunny Deol is surrounded by corrupt officers, politicians, and leaders. He tries to survive the toxic environment on his own but in the end, he had to take a stand and act against the evil powers. The climax in which he jumps off a jumping bus that has a bomb in it is a classic example of Bollywood Climaxes.

Conclusion

Indian Movie Review
Indian Movie Review

In farewell words, I think Sunny Deol is only made for tough roles. Especially Patriotic roles. Did you see him in the film Border? I was not impressed to see him doing comedy. His true potential lies in tough and manly roles.
