What’s It about ?

What the love is a show about singletons who want to find love. The show is as simple as it sounds. Karan Johar plays cupid and love guru for the singletons to help them find the perfect guy or girl for them. He chooses 6 potential bachelors for this love ride. An open one-on-one conversation with KJo, followed by a preparatory celeb date, one more talking session with well-known personalities for the contestants to let go of their fears and insecurities.

The talking sessions might look different but the primary cause is the counseling. It also has the grooming session done by the Bollywood famous make-up and hairstylist Shaan Mutthatil and celebrity stylist Maneka Harsinghani and finally the set-up date by KJo. Each episode has the same pattern so you know what’s coming up next. The show calls over celebs like Arjun, Parineeti, Mallika Dua, Kaneez Surkha, Shibani Dandekar, Sunny Leone, Ali Fazal, Arjun Rampal, Mallishka, Saif Ali Khan, Huma Quereshi. The show focuses on the 7 singletons; The β€œtoo many times rejected” bride, the alone homosexual, the insecure fashion designer, the 24/7 office resider CA, the underconfident heartbroken businesswoman, and the check box filler.

“Karan Johar’s new show for Netflix is full of cliche and an easy pass”

~Pinkvilla

I would rate the series a 4/10!

Brief

the contestants to open up more and get some tips. Being directed by KJo, the series is incomplete without the
luxurious aspects. The dates happen on some interesting venues like Grapevine, parachute, a boat, swimming pool, beach, etc. The contestant is sent on 2 dates and is given a choice of selecting one partner from the 2 dates. Followed by the magical door, the date was chosen by the contestant who he/she wants to see outside, if stands across the door then it’s a victory otherwise the contestant shall return with empty hands. The dates spend some quality time together; eating, walking, talking, etc. Whilst all this is happening the love guru KJo is watching all this on a big screen. Like a happy grandmother, KJo feels happy when the grandchildren (contestants) are seen enjoying the date.

Likes/dislikes

The show is about the youngster’s 20s and above the crowd. It’s nice that the youngsters get to express themselves and address the issues. Right from the patriarchal society, the orthodox thinking, body shaming, homosexuality, etc. The show throws light upon various issues.

The show sometimes feels like it is scripted because every contestant gets chosen. It sometimes feels like it is only for the show. The irony is the show is based upon love but you will hardly feel anything about the emotion. Despite a lot of open conversations, the show lacks spunk. It gets yawn-worthy to a certain extent.

Conclusion

The show could be a lot more entertaining and less monotonous. But watch this one if you need some styling and grooming tips. But don’t scream What the (surely not love)!
