One Line Review: Old concept but a captivating movie!

Introduction

I am sure you’ve heard the story of Layla and Majnu tons of times in movies, legends, and even in songs. But this is not what you’re already familiar with. Though the concept is the same, the take is very fresh and new.

This Indonesian-Azerbaijanian movie will surely make your day. I’m not into romantic movies because of the drama and crying scenes but I sure liked this one. I’m sure after reading this review you’ll rush towards your Netflix account. Giving it a four and a half star.

Plot Summary

Layla is an Indonesian scholar working in Azarbaijan. She meets an admirer of her work, Samir. One thing leads to another and they fall in love with each other. But Layla’s arrange marriage throughs puts everything in turmoil. Now, they have to fight their cultural barrier in order to get together for their life.

Aspect 1:

I want to talk about the music right off the bat. See, you know you are watching an old emperor-type Muslim drama when you hear the middle eastern kind of music, just like the BGM of Aladin, right? Well, this movie has the same vibe to it. Definitely 10/10 for BGM and film setup. It really takes you to the era.

Aspect 2:

The story was well written and on-the-track. I didn’t find any loopholes, though I did my best. The best thing is the screenplay and the acting did justice to the story. The chemistry and coordination between the lead actors were phenomenal which is the first thing a romantic movie needs. The character arc is nice and curved, you’ll see the changes in nature and behavior of the characters as they mature according to the story. What can I say, It just kept going better and better.

Conclusion:

Really? You still wanna hear a conclusion? After all this? Well, Say no more. If you are into romantic dramas where the lovers go up against the whole world and defeat everyone to get back together at the end, then this is definitely the kind of movie you should add to your watch list. I’m not a big fan of this genre though, but I still loved this. It really was a good experience to share with you guys.
