Movies Whose Plot Twist Will Blow Your Mind

3 min read

Trust me, you won’t be the same person you were before this lockdown, instead you will emerge out having a better movie choice.

What in your opinion makes it worth remembering? Is it it’s story? It’s cast, it’s genre or what? Well to be honest according to me it’s the movie’s plot twist. That’s what good directors do. They read your minds and they ultimately at some point make their movie go in the direction that is least expected by the audience.

While some of the movies that are made on the concepts like time travel are really exciting from beginning till end, it is just beautiful to see, how really simple stories end up having really complex endings.

This century witnessed some of the movies that had in them mind blowing plot twists. I’m here listing down a few movies that I think will shook your head as well.

Warning – Although write-up is mostly spoiler-free, will recommend you to watch the movie instead.

Shutter Island

IMDB – 8.1/10

Director – Martin Scorsese

Watch on Prime

Shutter Island is a 2010 American thriller film written by Laeta Kalogridis, based on the novel “Shutter Island”. The movie features award winning actors like Leonardo Dicaprio (as Teddy Daniels) and Mark Ruffalo (as Ben Kingsley).

Well, the movie is really worth watching even if you know its biggest plot twist. How everything goes out smoothly and how much emphasis is given on the details is really entertaining to watch.

I’ll say don’t get sidetracked seeing obvious twists, the movie is more than that. The movie really was one of the best plot twists of this decade.

The Prestige

IMDB – 8.5/10

Director- Christopher Nolan

Watch on Prime

How is it like to be a magician? We all wanted to be a magician once right? Christopher Nolan in his movie “ The prestige” has shown that a magician never reveals his secrets, at least not as big as the one shown in this movie as the biggest plot twist.

The is based on the rivalry of the two magicians, Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) and Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman), who try to outdo each other with illusions in London. The movie also features a  wonderful performance by David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, who creates travel  machine that allows Angier to duplicate himself for every performance of “The Real Transported Man,” his best magic act where Angier vanishes from an electrical field, only to emerge on the balcony of the theatre leaving the audience shocked.

Gone Girl

IMDB –  8.1/10

Director – David Fincher

Watch on Prime

It is a 2014 released American Thriller film. The film casts Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne and Rosamund Pike as Ammy Dunne. One fne morning Nick wakes on his five-year wedding anniversary, no less – and heads over to the bar that he runs with his twin sister Margo (Carrie Coons). He returns home only to find his dog barking madly, and his wife gone missing.

At first it’s seen that Nick was been blamed for the accident but here again, we are talking about plot twists right?

Go and see the plot twist. Highly recommended.

The Others

IMDB – 7.6/10

Director- Alejandro Amenabar

Watch on Prime

Unlike many these days, “The Others” is a horror suspense movie. It’s a 2001 released Spanish Psychological horror film casting Nicole Kidman as Grace and Alakina Mann as Anne.

The plot is really simple (like an average ghost story) but the conclusion to the film was really shocking and that only made the movie a worth watch.

A woman named Grace moves with her children to a mansion on Jersey, , where she’s waiting for her husband to come back from battle (second world war). The children have a very rare disease disease that they cannot be touched by direct sunlight without being hurt in some way. The lady made some religious rules hires some servants for them. Everything goes wrong on their arrival and the rules got broken which ultimately lead the way to the things happening in the mansion.

Badla

IMDB – 7.9/10

Director – Surjoy Ghosh.

Watch on Netflix

The movie is 2019 released Indian crime and thriller casting legendary Bollywood actor Amhitabh Bachchan and talented Indian actress Taapsee Pannu. The movie is actually a remake of a Spanish movie (The Invisible Guest) but I liked watching this remake more. Unlike the ones I mentioned above this move has a series of plot twists and the movie ends again with a plot twist as well.

Naina Sethi ( Taapsee Pannu) an entrepreneur gets accused of a murder. One morning she  finds herself locked in a hotel room and When she regains conscious she finds herself lying beside the corpse of her lover Arjun and she is arrested for the murder She hires a lawyer, Badal Gupta ( Amhitabh Bachchan) with the help of her friend. Naina tries to describe him exactly what happened that day, But Badal feels that there are lot many loopholes in Naina’s story.

Final Words

I tried to show just a glimpse and not to reveal the actual twist in any of these movies. I would recommend giving all of them a watch. I’m sure you will be liking them.
