Introduction

Hey there! Mumbai saga was getting recommend in my Prime feed for almost a month now. Finally, I decided to take a deep look into the movie and here what I have come across.

β€œGangster films have always been Sanjay Gupta’s forte; be it Kaante or Shootout At Lokhandwala. However this time, the director gets his math wrong in terms of both, in terms of story and execution.”

Plot Summary

Amartya Rao was a simple man until he beats one person to death who was trying to bully him and his life changes completely. Now everyone respects him and he becomes the Bhai of that area. One day, in support of a political rally, he kills a wealthy mill owner. Mill owner’s wife announces a prize of Rs 10 Cr to any policeman who finishes Amartya. Vijay takes responsibility to take him down.

An Error

Let’s talk about a very major error of this movie. Let me frame this in this way. Someone from accounting background might not be able to understand the life struggles and lifestyles of engineers. In the same sense, someone who is born in 2008…09…10 will never understand the joy of the childhood of 90’s kids. What am I getting into with this? Well, the audience demographics of this movie are 15-30-Year-olds, and the theme of the movie is 80’s Mumbai where there are riots, drugs, hafta-wasoolis, the underworld. They might not be able to connect and understand the concept of the ’80s. Plus it is so much saturated now, almost every fifth movie is about the Mumbai underworld now. Enough of it already.

Performance

John Abraham is good in this movie, although we have seen much greater performances of him and kinda expecting this one to be of that level as well, but it was just above average. However, Emraan Hashmi is the one who stole the performance badge. He came in the second half of the movie and steals every scene which he entered. It was such a great pleasure to watch him on the screen.

There was one part where Emraan looked a bit odd, in the climax where Emraan and Abraham fight, given the size of Abraham, Emraan looked a bit small and way too much weak to face Abraham. It was a bit unrealistic there. But there was no stone left unturned by the performance of Emraan. Very beautiful.

Verdict

Mumbai saga is a good movie, if you are into underworld wars drama and been following the Mumbai underworld theme, you are gonna enjoy it.
