Early Life

Sir Sean Connery was born on August 25th, 1930 to a middle-class family in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh Scotland (U.K.).

Before becoming a professional actor, he did various jobs like milkman, driver, laborer. He also joined The Royal Navy, but was later discharged due to medical problems. He had a choice between becoming a professional footballer or an actor. Sir Sean Connery once stated what he chose was the wisest decision of his life.

The Breakthrough

While he did a small role in Tv series and other movies it was No Road Back (1957which made everyone notice the tall and handsome actor. In 1962 he became the first actor to play James Bond on the silver screen in Dr. No. He played that role so well that he went on playing the Bond 6 more times over a span of 20 years. 

He was the first one to say the lines “The name is Bond… James Bond”.

Award and Other Films

Sir Sean Connery got his first and only Academy Award for The Untouchables (1987) where he plays a cop names Jim Malone. He had a successful career, even after he left the spy thriller. He went on to star in movies like Alfred Hitchcock’s Marnie (1964), The Hill (1965), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), The Wind and the Lion (1975), Time Bandits (1981), Highlander (1986), The Name of the Rose (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Rising Sun (1993), The Rock (1996), Finding Forrester (2000) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003).

End Of The Road

 The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) was his 93rd and last feature film. But he declared his retirement in 2006. He told U.K. daily that his favorite bond movie was From Russia With Love because of its intriguing story and locations.

The Favorite James Bond

Sean Connery’s son told the BBC that his father died in his sleep while in the Bahamas and he had been unwell for some time. He has left a void in the film community and James Bond fans. For few he’d always be the best James Bond who changed the definition of spy thriller in movies . We shall be always grateful to him for the movies that he was part of. He might be gone, but his movies would be with us forever.
