What made you choose a career as a makeup artist?

I chose a career as a motion picture makeup artist when I was 15 years old. My high school boyfriend is the nephew of legendary makeup artist Robert Arrollo and on Christmas Eve 1983, I met the infamous “Gandhi” Bob. He was telling stories about his career and even did a fake burn on my arm with kitchen ingredients. This was pretty much the moment I decided on my future.

What does makeup mean to you?

Makeup is magic. It can completely alter the appearance of someone (prosthetics) or enhance their natural beauty.

What is your first big break?

My first break was in 1989/90. I department headed the action film “Stone Cold” starring Brian Bosworth. It was an all-out action film that became a cult classic. I was 23 years old at the time.

Make-up Artists require their creativity to be constantly nurtured and inspired. What inspires your creativity?

I am constantly inspired by the work of my fellow peers, nature, fashion trends, and different cultures from around the world.

What is your advice for any young person who wants to go into the field of professional makeup?

My advice to anyone becoming a makeup artist is to get educated. Take classes and learn everything you can, then get out there and practice!!!! Do test shoots, student films, and even find a mentor.

What famous artists inspired you and how?

I remember seeing Beetlejuice and being blown away by Ve Neil’s makeup designs. She became an instant idol of mine and I even got to work on Batman and Robin!!!! Her makeup designs along with Tim Burton’s direction are my favorite to this day.

What are the three tools in your makeup kit that you can never, ever be without?

The three things I cannot live without are my set bag, my One Blade, and my binder with my script and notes.

What do you describe as your signature style?

I am very good with makeup on mature skin. I don’t really have a signature style because the trends are always changing.

Who is one memorable actor/actress you’ve worked with as a makeup artist and why?

My favorite actor to work with is Titus Welliver. He is a total pro and takes great care of his crew. He is a true gentleman and one of the nicest people I have ever met.

Welcome to Indian Cinema. We look forward to seeing some of your stunning works in Indian 2. Could you share your experience working with Director Shankar?

Working with director Shankar is the equivalent of working with Spielberg. His vision of Indian 2 is nothing short of brilliant. He sees everything and has a great eye when it comes to makeup and prosthetics.

What can we expect from Indian 2? Please share your experience working with the legendary Kamal Hassan. It is because of your incredible team’s efforts we are going to witness him amaze us as Senapathi.

Sorry, I can’t say anything about Kamal till the film comes out.

How was it working with the South Indian Queen Kajal Aggarwal? Please share your bonding with her.

Kajal is an absolute doll. She is one of the most beautiful people I have ever worked with. Her sense of humour is fantastic!!!! We had conversations that ranged from skincare to travel. The character she plays in Indian 2 is bold and heroic. Kajal became Rajamani and gave everything she had to this role. I truly believe she will win a National award and possibly get an Oscar nomination for this role. On our last day of filming, Kajal gifted me with a full base of TAC Ayurveda products. She has invested in this amazing wellness company!
