Introduction

A demonic entity hunts down various churches, spreading gruesome deaths on the go.

“Thereโ€™s nothing scary about the demon nun who returns to terrorise France in this pointless sequel”

~  The Guardian

Our rating for The Nun is 6/10.

Summary

Father Noiret, of a church in France, is burned to death by a demonic entity. The Vatican notices a pattern of deaths hunting down various of their churches. They suspect ‘The Nun’ or ‘Valak’ is causing these disturbances. Sister Irene is summoned and tasked with tracking down these demonic occurrences and getting rid of the demon. As Irene had previously handled the same demonic entity at Saint Cartha’s Monastery by creating a miracle, the Vatican handles this ‘case’.

Irene, along with Sister Debra, follows the locations of demonic occurrences and notices a pattern. Irene recognizes Maurice’s presence at all the places of occurrence. She suspects that Maurice was possessed by the Valak when he rescued her at Saint Cartha’s. Irene and Debra set off to locate Maurice and find out why The Nun is hunting down various places and people and what it is going after this time.

Review

The Incidents of The Nun 2 happen after what happened during Part 1. Those who have watched the prequel can easily follow up on the incidents in The Nun 2. But primarily, The Nun 2 belongs to the Conjuring Universe, and a good amount of horror is expected from each film in the franchise. Unfortunately, The Nun 2 is neither scary nor thrilling.

Bonnie Aaron’s appearance as The Nun is one of the most iconic occurrences in the Conjuring Universe. Since The Nun’s very first appearance in Conjuring 2, the entity has been shown in a very creepy and mysterious manner. But after The Nun, the demonic entity is losing its ‘charm’. Even though the movie is titled ‘The Nun 2’, the Nun barely appears. The storyline, too, is pretty weak. The only exciting factor during the entire movie was when the Warrens were shown during the post-credits scene.

In short, Nun 2 is a movie about the demonic entity’s haunting,, where it barely appears. The narrative moves forward like a weakly written investigative thriller. The makers must know that a good horror movie is not about weak jump scares alone but a strong plot and characterisation.

Conclusion

The Nun 2 is neither scary nor interesting.
